Delete 98OS

I have update 98 to XP on my vaio and ended up with 98 on C: partition and XP on the D: partition. I want to delete 98 completely and ideally format the drive. I have deleted all old apps and files from the 98 partition but dare I delete windows itself? Can anyone advise?
