Defragmenting and Disk Clean up Issue

Guest

I recently defragmented my Dell Optiplex 170L and also did a disk clean up as
well. Since then my computer has been real slow, computer programs stall such
as Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office Applications and most others. I have
disabled Norton Internet Security 2006, and still no luck

Also, system restore will not restore to the restore points that i created
before the defragmentation. System Restore will load up and i can choose the
restore point but when it reboots it say that it could not be restored to
that certain date.

What could have gone wrong, any solutions or assistance would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you

Prior to doing a defrag, did you check the disk for inconsistencies. It's
possible the drive is marked "Dirty" and needs a cursory Chkdsk C: to
confirm that and a more comprehensive Chkdsk C: /R (or /F) to make
repairs.
**Note Chkdsk with Repair or Fix can remove data in the course of
resolving the issues. Always backup data before queuing up a Chkdsk
with Repair or Fix at the next boot.
Click Start, Run (Type) Cmd [Enter]
From the Command Prompt > Chkdsk C:
Chkdsk will report status and if the drive/partition is marked Dirty will
recommend a /F or /R. When entering the Chkdsk C: /F the system will
respond that it cannot be run and would you like to schedule it at the
next boot, answer Y.
