Hi Everyone i recently did a disk clean up and defragmentation on my
computer. I have a DELL Optiplex 170L, Petium 4 proccessor. Since then
everything has begun to run real slowly, microsoft applications slow down
when opening, internet explore takes forever to open up. I have disabled
Norton Internet Security and Anti-Virus and no luck. Since then i have also
gotten a bunch of Pop-ups,

I am unable to restore to original restore points in System Restore. I can
open the application but the computer will restart and say that it could not
restore to that certain date.

Also, i can get into safemode but explorer.exe loads and then shuts down. I
have scanned my computer for viruses, done microsoft updates. I've done
chkdsk option, i just dont want to end up reinstalling the whole system.

What could be the problem. Any solutions or suggestions would be
appreciated. Thank you.

Sounds to me as if you used sort of registry cleaner.
I would do a repair install of XP.

While you may not have viruses, it certainly sounds like you've got
other malware. This has nothing to do with Disk Cleanup or Defrag.
Follow these malware removal steps:

Make sure that your Norton is a current version (not earlier than 2005),
your subscription is active, and the virus definitions are updated.
