Default Profile, Quick Launch and XPSP2

I am having the worst time customizing my desktops. Up until now I
have had no problem customizing settings and inserting them in the
default profile. But now, for some reason, every time I place an icon
in the Default Profile's QuickLaunch area, it is deleted by the time I
sysprep and re-image a PC. Has anyone experienced this before? Fixes?
