Date and time in System tray

I have got the time, day and date permanently locked in the system tray and
it has expanded the task bar to 3 lines.
Have checked out every setting but I can not reduce the width of the task
bar.
Can anyone please help.

Did you UNLock the Taskbar?

Right click the Taskbar
Click: Lock the Taskbar if there is a check mark
Left click and drag the taskbar to your desired size

I tried that but the task Bar was not locked. It has been the most
mystifying problem I have ever encountered.
I could expand the task Bar to almost half screen but it would not collapse
to below 3 line equivalent.
I noticed that when I expanded it the "start" icon stayed at the top, while
any operating program that was minimised and the Tray stayed at the bottom??
Then when I reduced to the 3 line situation I found, by very close
examination, that the faint division line after "Start" carried right down
all 3 lines.
well after moving the curser over the lower portion to get the move double
arrow sign, Holding down the left button and dragging upward it all came
right again!!!

I still am not sure how this came about and I can not reverse the process.

Jack,

I never tried it before, but I can drag the Taskbar to almost half the
screen also.

So it's fixed now?

I'm having this same issue but can't seem to resolve. I haven't encountered a
more recent post either. My "start" icon also stays to the top as the task
bar is expanded but unlike your situation so do any minimized windows.

My problem seems to have start when I was working in Excel and held a key
down too long and was prompted with the "filterkeys" option. Apparently I
selected the wrong option! Anyway, now I can't get back to "normal" even
though I have reviewed all the accessibility options and compared my settings
to another user's on the same machine. The icons in the try seem "larger"
than they should and have poor resolution... like a bitmap that has been
magnified.
