Data sharing between users.

My wife and I both have Quicken installed but the data isn't shared between
the two users. Is this an XP or a Quicken issue? Or could it be I'm still
not understanding "Sharing"?

Thats because you installed Quicken for each user and not once for 'all'
users
I dont use Quicken but there might be an option to browse to the data file
you both want to open, failing that uninstall and reinstall for all users

Thanks! But that brings me to the part I mentioned that I really don't
understand "Sharing". How do you install for "all" or "limited" users? Or
where can I find out more about how to do that?

Installing for all users just makes the program accessible to all users.
If you want to share a common data file, you will have to put the data file
in the Shared folder and point the program to the data file for all users.

I suppose my problem now is that I haven't figured out how to do that. Is
there a source available that gives better instructions than XP help? Or am
I just really missing it?

When you install an application there is often an option on one of the
installer screens to decide whether to install an application for "All
users" or for "Me only". It is often on the same screen on which you choose
the location of where you want to install it.

So the suggestion is basically to uninstall Quicken for both your wife and
yourself, and then to re-run the installer (eg by the cd you bought) and
keep your eyes peeled for the option mentioned above. Not all installers
give you that option, though, so it may or may not be present.

For the data sharing bit, can you not just choose
File > Open..
and browse to the location of the data file?

[Not familiar with Quicken either, so the above is general suggestion]

When installing Quicken, you will only have the ability to install Quicken
for the user who is logged on to Microsoft® Windows®.

To set up Quicken to be used by multiple users, the program should be
installed under each individual user while they are logged on to Microsoft
Windows. For example, if three family members are set up as individual users
on Microsoft Windows, then the Quicken program would have to be installed
while each individual is logged in.

To share files and folders on your computer

Moving or copying a file or folder to Shared Documents makes it available to
anyone who has a user account on your computer.

1.. Open My Documents.
2.. Click the file or folder that you want to share.
3.. Drag the file or folder to Shared Documents in Other Places.

************

Move one Quicken data file to the Shared documents.

Switch to the second user.
Open Quicken and open the data file in the Shared Documents folder.
