Unneeded Windows Explorer window opens when Windows starts

Eric

I'm using Windows XP SP 3. Every time I open Windows, a Windows explorer
window opens, showing C:\Program Files\Quicken. I do have the Quicken program
installed on my PC, but I did not intentionally do anything to open this
Window.

How can I get Windows to stop opening this unneeded window?

Thanks.

A registry, or other Startup source is attempting to load at startup;
the target is damaged, so the folder is opened instead. Perhaps it
needs to be enclosed in quotes, or have a different subfolder added to
the path.

Run Msconfig and look through the Startup tab for entries that mention
that folder. Report back with the paths you find, and their locations,
whether in the registry, or another location. maybe someone with
Quicken can give you the proper start path for that utility.

You might find the answer readily available in a Quicken forum or
newsgroup. Here, we just see the symptoms as a common occurrence.

See this information from MVP Ramesh. The example is for a Dell folder but
the same principal applies to your situation.

Thanks for the suggestion. I turned on the startup log as that website
suggested.

I don't see anything that references the folder that I'm seeing.

Here's my startup log. I don't mean to ask you to do extensive debugging for
me, but if you care to take a quick look at it and see something funny, I'd
be grateful if you could point it out. (I do have a folder called
c:\programs\Quicken Online Backup, so I don't think that's the problem.)

Thanks.

Your startup log came out completely difficult to read in my newsreader. I'd
disable the Quicken backup and also the very last item doesn't seem to have
a target. Follow Ramesh's directions to check where those entries are
pointing. I'm afraid only you or someone sitting at the computer can do
that.
