cumputer stay on

Hi,
I'm new to Xp Pro. and could use some help, before XP I had ME and every
thing was working fine, I formatted my hard drive and installed XP and my
hardware and software that I need. Now my computer stays on even after I
shut it down. Some of your thoughts maybe I have a Virus, but rest assure
that I don't I have the latest Ver. with the latest updates of Norton.
Please help!!!

Pete, if you mean that your Computer restarts itself after you have
Shutdown check here.

Do you mean that you have to power it off manually? You get a screen that
says "It's now safe to shut down your computer." That is definitely not a
virus. I'm not sure how to solve it, but it has something to do with your
power management settings, either in xp or in the BIOS.
