Creating a Login Page

I'm new to creating websites and I'm not sure about most of the terminology
so please bear with me.
I'm creating my schools website and we need to have pages where only
students only family members can access. I've set it all up for the student
section. This should mean that people are only asked for a password when they
click on the hyperlinks for students but the website asks for a password on
every page. You can cancel out of it three times then browse that page but as
soon as you click on another hyperlink you have to cancel out of the login
dialog box again. However if you click on the link to students then if you
cancel 3 times a page comes up saying you don't have permission. This would
be OK that the site asks for a password for everypage if the whole website
was meant to be password protected but I need to make it accessible to
visitors to so they don't have to go through the hassle of canceling 3 times
on every page they go to. What is the problem and why is my website doing
this?

What have you used for the login ASP or PHP?
What is the code you use?

I have no idea. I did the thing where you open your website in frontpage and
then go under tools then server then click on administration home and I set
it up from there. And i don't know the kind of code I use. I'm sorry but if
you can tell me how to find out then I'll tell you.

Thank you so much for the help but I have one more question, does that mean

You have to search for a PHP solution.

Thanks for the help. I may be mistaken but isn't that why I'm here? To find a
solution?

This is really not an FP related issue.

In your IE browser address bar type:

? PHP Login Script
