Corruption of photo files after writing to CD

When I write photo files to a CD using XP "Copy to Disk"
the original files on the computer become corrupted and
cannot be opened.The filenames still appear and so does
the original size but the files do not preview or open
with different programs.
 
I have a similar or the same problem. Writing photo files to a cd via XP gave me the same problem but not all files. Only the files that were transfered to the PC via Camedia are corrupt. Files from other sources copy OK. If I try to restore via Cammedia I get an illegal shutdown due to a DLL error. Help, they are not my files that I have lost.
