Corrupt Registry? SP4 Related?? CD/DVD Not Recognized

Evan

I have a Dell Dimension 5000e Laptop running W2K sp4 with
a Toshiba SD-C2402 CD/DVD drive. Sometime after installing
Service Pack 4, I found that my drive is not recognized. I
don't know if it's related, but I haven't messed with my
registry recently, and I get the Code 19 message that the
registry may be corrupt. I have tried uninstalling the
device, and reinstalling it, but it doesn't make a
difference. I have the latest firmware in the drive. Any
suggestions?? Help.

Evan, I have a Compaq Desk Pro, and I have exactly the
same problem. Only I had it before I installed the SP 4,
and still have it after installing sP4. I don't think it
is SP4 Related. I rebooted, uninstalled, and tried to
download new drivers. No success...I then installed SP4
hoping it would overlay or replace the registry that is
corrupted. I would reload, however, I don't have a cd/dvd
drive to load from, or do back up from....
If you get a solution for this , i would appreciate any
suggestions. Denny, (e-mail address removed)

Hi Evan,

You may want to try the Method One Resolution given in the following Microsoft
Knowledge Base Article about removing the UpperFilters or LowerFilters registry
values. Although KB270008 does not list installing SP4 as the cause of this
behavior, someone recently posted that it caused it on their computer, and that this
fix worked for them. And, of course, if you backup the registry key before
deleting the values you could easily restore it if this does not resolve the issue.
