Corrupt file

Mike

After installing XP SP2 I keep getting the following message : " The file or
directory c:\$MFT is corrupt or unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility".
I did run it and the message keeps popping up.
Also, upon restarting, another message says there is no page file.
Any ideas ??
Thanks,

Mike

$MFT is a critical NTFS system area on the drive. Did you do a
Chkdsk C: /R -or- Chkdsk C: /F (Repair or Fix) ? You should do
a system image backup or make sure your personal data is backed
up. Chances are Chkdsk can repair the MFT, but if it makes large
changes to the drive you may end up with missing files/folders.

The MFT is the Master File Table that holds the index for all the
files on the drive.

The MFT is the Master File Table, containing all the records of files on
your system, so if that's corrupted things don't look good.

You could try running the chkdsk command from the Recovery Console, if you
have a Windows CD (press R at the Welcome to setup screen) (May possibly
work if it's been installed on the hard drive too)

chkdsk /? for syntax

I did run chkdsk c: /f and no problems were found. I now uninstalled SP2 and
the message has disappeared. Should I try re-installing SP2 again or leave
things alone ??
