copy info to a CD in W XP but not to DVD

Hi,
I've no trouble copying info to the CD in Windows XP but when the file in to
large and I try to copy it to a DVD it does not recognize the DVD disc, even
though I can burn on that disc (in the same DVD writer) using ather programs
- sonic simple backup and Ulead.
Can anybody help me?
is there a way to fix it? or is this, the way it has to be for the moment?

XP cannot burn to DVD, you will require some other application.
