contextual items that change when document is renamed

I am looking for a way to have a specific word "x" and all instances of "x"
to automatically change to "y" when I rename the document to "y." This was
set up for me on my old pc. but the feature has mysterious disappeared after
I got my new pc.

The "x" item is probably inserted with a { FILENAME } field, as
you might verify by pressing Alt+F9 to display field codes (press
Alt+F9 again to switch back to display of field results). In
Word 2002 and 2003, the FILENAME field does not update
