Constant need to reboot?

Ever since I got nagged into installing SP2, I've had spontaneous
crashes and need to cold reboot (with the off button) at least daily,
sometimes more.

When I go to reinstall XP, I get the following message off the disc:

"Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer
is newer than the version on the CD.

Warning: If you decide to delete the newer version of Windows that is
currently installed on your computer, the files and settings cannot be
recovered."

So I've got those old Catch 22 blues.

My question is should I go ahead and reinstall, or is there a better
way to keep XPSP2 from crashing?

Thanks,

Bob Johnson
