reinstall xp

Wanted to do a reinstall of windows xp but when i put my disk in this is the
message I got.
Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is
newer than the version on the CD.

Warning: If you decide to delete the newer version of Windows that is
currently installed on your computer, the files and settings cannot be
recovered.

How do I get around this?

I would recommend creating a new Windows XP CD
with SP2 slipstreamed in, then perform a "Repair Install".
You can use your current Windows XP CD to
accomplish this.

Either one of the following utilities makes slipstreaming
(integrating) SP2 into Windows XP a breeze:

Windows Slipstreaming and Bootable CD Guide

or

AutoStreamer 1.0.33 (preferred)

What the message is telling you is that you currently have XP SP2 installed
and the XP CD you are attempting to use an older XP CD without SP2 - XP SP2
is considered a "newer version" than your XP CD.
Carey's suggestion provides you with an "XP SP2" CD which can be used to
repair or reinstall XP and is the option of choice - the other option: if
you installed SP2 as an update - it is removable via control panel and you
would be able to use your CD - requiring SP2 to be installed again as an
update - whew!

Why would I do a repair install- my computer has not crashed it just seems
slow.

OK Thats correct I have a system that seems very slow so I thought I would
back up everything, run the transfer wizard, erase the c drive- i also have a
slave drive, and reinstall the system, but then I ran into the original
problem I stated. I still want to do this project and am now trying to create
a slipstream iso image on a disk and follow the directions that have been
given to me for this. I am having difficulty finding out how to get to the
system bios to boot off the disk. I have tried restarting the computer and
pushing F12 and selcting the cd drive but it says there is a problem loading
OS, so apparently I am still not having any luck with this.

Mthod 1 seems very similar to all the rest of the suggestions. When I put
the cd in the computer including the slipstream version I am told that the
version on the computer is newer and I can't continue only cancel or get
details as to why I can't continue, if I try to boot from the disk I either
don't get the computer to boot from the disk even after I have gone into set
up and changed the order between the cd drive and the hard drive it just goes
to the normal boot up, or if I push F12 and select the cd to boot from it
just hangs and says "error loading OS" This is getting crazy and I am ready
to give up!

I CD drive problem looks like a hardware issue. Inspecting the drive /
cables and replace them if found defective.
