connection problem

I reinstalled windows last night, after making sure the network is working
fine, I still can't log into MSN messenger. An error message popped up
saying that my computer hasn't been connected to the network yet while
actually I can browse webpages smoothly. I just don't get it. Can anyone
help?

msn messenger always connects to the msn server at microsoft,

while browsing all over the net, your browser connects to your isp. It
sounds like your hotmail or msn email address is not registered.

you can only connect wth hotmail or msn email addresses.....
