Connection Icon

I cannot get the internet connection icon to stay on the taskbar to show the connection status. I go to the control panel and click the box that says "show icon in notification area" then it shows up but the next time I boot up its gone? What do I do?

Rt click on Taskbar>select Properties>Customize>click on Connection Icon
and in Behavior column
choose Always Show
