XP Pro notification Icons gone !!!

I am talking about the icons next to the time on the taskbar. For me
it just shows the time and nothing else now, it should show my
internet connection and sound control ect.

Just wondering how to get it all that back ???

When I right click start/Properties In the notification area I can
click show time, but hide inactive icons and options are greyed out
and are un selectable.

(A vbs version of the previous fix that toggles them on/off.)
