Connecting XP drive to Vista Machine

My XP system died (HP). I bought a new HP Vista machine. I want to recover
the data from my old HD which has XP operating system. Is it possible to add
the XP drive to my Vista machine? Can I move files or programs across
operating systems? Will the Vista machine even recognize the XP drive? I
really don't want to lose all the data on my old drive. Is there a practical
solution?

yes you can connect your old XP drive as slave to the Vista machine.
If you have IDE HD you will need to set the jumper on the back of the HD to
the slave or cable select position before connecting it to the middle
connector in the IDE cable.
If its a SATA HD it does not matter...just connect it to a SATA connector.
You can move your data/saved files over but not programs. They need to be
reinstalled.
I suggest that once you have your saved files off the old HD...........you
keep it installed after you format the drive which erases everything on it.
That way it gives you increases storage space for use any way you see
fit...or to install programs..or to use as a backup drive.

When you made that statement by interjecting into the conversation ..you
were talking to both of us.........
but if you are too "sensitive" to accept a correction I will be more gentle
next time
