Ghosting to second machine.

I have one IBM XP pro machine that the hard drive died.

I have another system XP pro up and running (not IBM)

Can i ghost the running machine, put the ghosted hard drive in
the second machine, and them change the XP COA to the proper one
on the case for the IBM machine?

Both are P4 machines. I don't have a up to date XP system disk
and am trying to avoid 100 rounds of updated XP from old disks.

Well, I guess you have nothing to lose by trying, but it's pretty
doubtful. IF you do try it, be sure to do a Repair Install because the
hardwares are going to be different.
If your XP Pro is OEM as opposed to retail, you're probably out of
luck.

If it were me, I'd reinstall from scratch and let auto-update take care
of the rest. Or, if you know it'll work, go straight for SP3 and avoid
all the updates.
