ASP.NET Machine Account created by .NET Framework v1.1

I installed Symantec Ghost 9.0 on my Windows XP Pro SP3 computer. When I
tried to run it for the first time, it told me I needed to install .NET
Framework v1.1, which I allowed it to do.

After that, every time I would bring the machine out of screen saver
mode, it would present me with the login screen. When I looked at user
accounts, I saw that there was a new one called "ASP Net Machine A...",
a password protected limited account.

After doing a backup, I deleted that user account to see what would
happen. Ghost still works, and I no longer get the annoying login screen
when exiting screen saver mode. What was the purpose of that user
account? Will I eventually have problems due to having deleted it?

Not to worry.

Asp.net is a "user" created by installing the .Net framework. It's not a
user account in the conventional sense, but intended for .Net developers.

If you don't happen to be a .Net developer, just go to Control Panel >
User Accounts and remove the account. Nothing bad will happen.

[With my luck, 20 years from now scientists will discover that removing
asp.net causes heart disease in laboratory rats.]

Thanks for that great tip.  In order to keep the "Nice Looking" logoff
screen without the dropdown, I had to have my account set as logon
with password.

If I used TeakUI to set no password needed, I got the dropdown
box when I logged off.  Upon logon, I just had to hit my icon and would
log in since I have no password set.

Now, it just boots right through. Geez, I only have been trying to
figure that out for years.

With the NET account gone, I boot right through.

Not to worry.

You could have accessed the logon section in TweakUI and remove the
"checkmarks" for every user account you do not want to should up on
the Welcome screen.
