Conflict issue

I am experiencing a problem with the a possible conflict that appears to be
coming from the video codec 97 wmd.
I am running xp home sp2 when I tracked the possible cause and disabled the
codec 97 in device manager the system worked fine the system runs fine enable
the codec 97 and then reboot the system boots then shuts down boots and shuts
down. I have checked for conflicts in device manager but cannot find any
items highlighted as being in conflict.
I have downloaded the driver update but this has not solved the issue either.
Does anyone have any ideas

Looks like leaving the audio codec 97 disabled is your best bet. It is not
a video codec.

The first questions would be what this codec is for, where did you get it,
and are you sure you need it? I found plenty of references for an AC 97
codec, but it's audio, not video. And what driver update did you download?

This apparently isn't a standard Windows file, so without a little more
information, it's going to be hard to even take a wild guess.
