Configuring the server

Hello,

I have win 2k3 server and many clients(XP Prof). Linksys router is
connected to the server whose address is 192.168.1.1
DHCP enabled
I've given static IP address to server. Server configuration...

IP : 192.168.1.135
Mask: 255.255.255.0
GW: 192.168.1.1

DNS: 202.168.23.34 (from ISP)

All clients can able to connect to internet but not able to connect to
server. When i try to add the client to domain, its specifying path to domain
not found.

When i ping the address 192.168.1.135 from the client, cannot ping.

When i ping from the server to IP address of any client(if i give static ip
to client) its ok. I've two NIC cards to the server. But now i am using only
one.

I am guessing that routing is not proper.

How can i connect to my LAN? How do i use 2 NIC cards to router and LAN?

Pls guide me. I was strucked.

Plssss

Do you have domain network or workgroup? can you ping the server by ip? You should install intrenal DNS instead of using ISP DNS.

You've got 2 main issues. The first involves the physical network. If you
create a dhcp scope that leases out ip_addresses to the clients, that scope
should match the server's subnet (unless a route is provided to route
packets back and forth). The dhcp scope should exclude 192.168.1.135 from
its range. The subnet mask is important.

DNS name resolution should be managed locally. Let the local dns server
query on behalf of clients. You need to install DNS, remove the root zone
and configure forwarders. This way only one session needs to cross the
firewall between local-private dns and ISP's dns (otherwise you've got 20
clients going through the firewall just to provide public name resolution).
Also, perhaps most importantly, your clients can then resolve the local
namespace as well.
