Computer would not start..... Registry_Error

Hi All,
(Gateway desktop; P4, 2.2G; 40 Gig H/D; Windows XP)

My computer would not boot up properly. I get "A problem
has been detected and Windows has been shut down to
prevent damage to your computer"

Registry_Error
Technical Info: 0x00000051 (0x00000003, 0x00000003,
0x00000000, 0xE1100F000)

I cannot reinstall the Operating system nor can I get into
the Recovery Console by pressing "R".

How can I work around this problem, any suggestions,
please? (Remember I cannot get past the blue screen.)

Is there a way to boot the computer using a diskette or CD
bypassing the defective registry files which will allow me
to use the repair console or copy some very important data
files?

Thanks for all the replies. I think most people are
missing the fact that I am unable to boot in any mode,
safe or otherwise. None of the leads, so far, addresses
how to get past the selection screen or avoid the blue
screen.

Your drive type info & drive controller info parts of the
registry are damaged or corrupted.
Insert the Windows xp CD and try to boot up from cold
shutdown. Does the system try to start using the CD.
If you get the msg. Press any key to boot from cd .....
then pres it and follow the instructions. Usually pressing
enter, then F8, escape.
Repairing may not work, so I suggest you try deleting the
original setup partition and recreate it/ format it/ and
reinstall os. I had similar issues in SP1a where repair or
fix would not work. This was how I got around the issue.

Of coarse, if the issue persists, you may have hardware
chipset issues as well, and you may need to talk with the pc
or system board manufacturer as well.
