Computer not recognizing cd (d) drive

My computer does not recognize my cd (d) drive. Is that drive going bad?
How hard is it to replace this?

Reboot the machine and enter the BIOS. See if the CD drive is recognized
there. If it's not, shut down, open the case and disconnect and then
reconnect the cables attached to the drive. Make sure they are seated well,
if any connections are loose, the drive won't work.

If reinstalling the drive doesnt work you can delete the upper and lower
filters from the registry.
Just google upper and lower filters for lots of guides on how its done.

See the other answers you got. My guess is that the drive is not going
bad, but of course I can't be sure from here.

I just wanted to address your last question, "How hard is it to
replace this?" just in case you do. It's normally easy, and takes just
a few minutes; this is what you need to do.

1. Open the case

2. Touch something grounded to discharge any static electricity from
your body.

3. There are two plugs going to the drive--one for power and one for
data. Unplug them both.

4. There are screws (usually four) mounting the drive to the case.
Unscrew them and save the screws.

5. Slide the drive out of the case.

6. Slide the new drive into the case.

7. Rescrew the mounting screws.

8. Replug both the plugs you removed.
