Hi

Any error messages? Does the freezing occur when you are using any
particular program?

Hi,

I've got the same problem. Had it a couple of days now. My computer is
practically unusable.

Initially I thought it must be an update for either of my Norton Antivirus
or Firewall, or a windows update (e.g. KB840374 last update was on the
12/May/2004) which was causing the problem. But I can't find any mention of
anything reports elsewhere and I have the latest versions of everything.

I've tried deleting my Windows\Prefetch contents. Looked in Event log, but
theres nothing which seems to match the points where I get the problem.

---
The only unusual thing is a mention of UserEnv with "...registry while an
application or service was still using the registry during log off. The
memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be
unloaded when it is no longer in use."

And

VSS "Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine
CoCreateInstance. hr = 0x80040206."
---
But as I say both these problems don't match the times I have these slow
downs.

The PC is doing something when I get these freezes, theres a lot of disk
activity.

Yet theres nothing consuming lots of process time in task manager and no
unusual tasks.

I haven't installed any new hardware or updated any drivers. I have really
installed any new software for a week or two either.

I've tried the security scan in the other posting but i'm fine (didn't scan
all files for the anti virus though).

I wouldn't say I'm using a paricular application for the problem to occur.
Having said that I'm sending this posting from Outlook Express and I'm
rather suprised how long the machine has been since it last locked up...

I really don't know what else to try.
Any sugestions, ideas? help!

jz
