Comp crash

It seems to me, any type of electronic equipment hates me. Everytime i get
something new, theres always a problem occuring before i get to actually use
it. -_-''. But after about of week of trying to fix my computer, im still
having problems. First, my cousin installed Windows Professional i think and
everything worked perfectly fine.. until i touched it. The sound didnt work..
and at this time i was in a different state because i got the comp for
cheaper from my cousin. Anyways, i brought the comp back home, and tried to
fix the sound problem. Couldnt do it, so i decided to reboot the whole damn
thing and switch to windows xp home edition. I used the cd that came with the
dell 2350 i have. And this current computer is custom.. so... i dont know is
that a bad thing?? Formatted blah blah the windows xp is on now, and the
sound still doesnt work... -_-... so ill just buy a soundcard later on
hopefully it works. Now... Another problem exists. Sometimes the computer
goes out to a blue screen out of no where when everything seems fine. But
most of the time, it happens when i start a video game up. Heres what comes
up:

I played Maplestory, and it blinks out to this blue screen in about 10
minutes prior to starting the game. It still happens when im doing nothing
either as i have said before.

I've ran a diagnostics tests on the memory or RAM whatever u call it with
mtinst, and it was fine on the standard tests, but den i did a extended test.
On the first p@ss it failed to complete some ranges. And i have no clue how
to fix it.

So, now im mad, irratated, and stuck. So if anyone would have any solutions
it would be nice, this is like the 3rd forum ive been on. I dont wanna waste
some 100 odd dollars to fix this. Maybe i just have to make some really
really intelligent friends ^_^. Anyways, if nobody has anything, im jsut
thinking of bringing it back to my cousin to start ALLLLL over again. thx

Well, the Windows XP CD that came with your old Dell PC is a Dell OEM version of Windows
XP specifically for the system it was delivered with. Aside from that point, it is
illegal to install it on another system. If the only problem that you had with the custom
system was that the sound stopped working, that probably had more to do with needing to
reinstall the correct audio drivers for the sound card, or if the audio/sound is
integrated with a chip on the motherboard. If you did not install a sound card, and the
motherboard has integrated sound, the Windows XP compatible audio drivers probably came on
a CD with the motherboard, OR you could download them at the site of the maker of the
motherboard. So, instead of reinstalling the audio drivers (or used the Windows XP System
Restore if it was a matter of a setting you had inadvertently changed), you trashed a
perfectly good Windows XP Professional install and wasted hours of your time? Since you
do not seem to have much tech expertise: The next time that you have a problem, instead
of trying to tackle it yourself, perhaps posting the problem here will give you a quick
fix, and less grief. Had you posted, before toasting the Windows XP Professional install,
you would have gotten responses for troubleshooting audio/sound problems. More than
likely, if all of the cables were connected properly, and the speakers were powered on,
and the Mute box in the mixer was not checked, and the volume was turned up, and there is
not hardware failure, and no one got into the System Setup (BIOS) and turned off the
onboard sound option, or if it was a sound card no one switched on the digital speaker
setting if you do not have digital speakers: You probably just had to reinstall the sound
drivers, a task that would have taken less than a minute.

"reboot" means you turned the computer off, and turned it on again. I'm
thinking you did more than that, no?

You will need to know exactly what is installed as far as hardware
goes. Then you will need to go to each site to download the latest
drivers. i.e..MSI motherboard drivers, ATI Radeon Drivers, whatever.
If this is over your head or confusing, find a knowledgable friend to help.
A shop will charge a small fortune to do this. There are too many
variables to do a walkthrough.
