My page in word, when I open it, is permanetly stuck on columns and I have to
go in and make the change each time to 1 column before being able to type. I
can't figure out how to turn this off. PLEASE HELP!!!

If you have Word 2003 or earlier, then locate and open your Normal.dot
file as described in Method 1 in
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm . Click on
Format | Columns | One | Apply to: Whole document | OK. Even if "One"
already appears to be selected, click on it anyway. Type a character or
two and delete what you just typed. Save the Normal.dot file and close it.

If you have Word 2007, then you need to make a similar change to your
Normal.dotm file instead of Normal.dot file.

I'm unable to find the normal.dot file when I do a search...any other
suggestions to find it?

Did you follow the instructions to make hidden folders visible?
