Hi, I've made a windows xp embedded image to update many machines
spread in
several locations.

The machines run the operating system copied to compact flash memory,
so I'm
planning to create a self-extracting image file (from a master Compact
Flash) to distribute it and write
the os to the CF using a standard PC.

Currently I'm testing a software which extract the image of a 'master
CF'
and create a self-extracting image file. The software I'm using is All
Image
version 1.3.1. The self-extracting file created with All Image is a
executable which run over windows and copy the image to a specified
drive.

This software seem to be pretty good but it has a problem writing to
the CF,
between 10% and 15% of the copy leave some files corrupted even when
the
self-extractor program notify a successful operation.

Does anyone know a software capable of create self-extracting image
file
from 1GB compact flash?

Thanks in advance.

Well, it doesn't create "self-extracting" image but have you tried Ghost? You can use ghost32 to extract the image on a volume then.

Thanks MK, I appreciate your reply.

Ghost is an option but it put on the table another problem: I have hundreds
of CF to burn, the machine can't be down for much time so I'll have to
install ghost in many PCs to get the CFs burned in short time. The
self-extracting is still the cheap and ease way.

Sorry, still don't understand the problem.
You won't need to install ghost but you can just use ghost32 executable standalone (especially if you stick to ghost v8.x) to deploy
the image. Ghost32 does support a bunch of command line options so you can easy automate the extraction process. There is nothing in
self-extracting option that cannot be done with ghost32.
