Clearing ARP cache

In trying to set up a Netgear router with two PCs I was motivated to Repair
my internet connection. I came up with a message that the ARP Cache could not
be cleared.

After reading several pages of information, including pages here on the
Microsoft web site, I tried manually fixing the ARP cache problem by manually
entering commands normally issued when you choose Repair. These commands are:

ipconfig /renew
arp -d
(and so forth)

Then I tested what would happen if I tried Repair again. I still get the
advice that the ARP cache cannot be cleared.

What gives?

I am presuming that you are using the XP OS

Try running this:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
Or
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

This may help your situation as it is like reinstalling TCP/IP Stack but
unfortunatly in XP it is considered that The Internet Protocol is now built
into the O/S itself & can not be uninstalled like in previous O/S versions
like 98, ME, Y2K

You can find Microsoft's article here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357

Hope this helps.....

Yes I am using Windows XP Home and I have tried both the commands you site
below. I think the problem must be a corrupted register, but I don't know if
I want to get into fixing that. This is an older computer that I am going to
retire and it can go to it's grave with one or two wounds as long as they
don't prevent me from getting some more miles. I think the only real impact
is that I cannot use the Repair option on a network connection, and some web
pages may not load.

Or, is this a more serious matter?
