Clean Out News Group Messages

After I get through checking Usenet News On Vista Home Basic in Windows
Mail, I then do the following:

Click Tools/Options/Advanced/Maintenance/Clean Up Now/Delete
Then click Yes
Then Close/Close/OK

That way, next time I check the News I get only new postings and none of the
'left overs' from the last time I checked.

My question is - is there a way for this to be done automatically when I
close Windows Mail and then reopen it or some other way? It would be nice
not to have to go through this each time. I need something that will not
take a day or two to work as I check the news groups several times a day.

Most of us newsgroup old-timers don't work that way.
What we do is set the view to "Hide Read Messages", so the next time
you come back to that newsgroup you see only unread (new) messages.
Every now and then we need to review an older message, which we can do
by temporarily setting the view to "Show All Messages".
If you don't care about ever needing to see already read messages again,
do the following: Tools, Options, Advanced, Maintenance, and select
"Purge newsgroup messages..." and "Delete read message bodies..."
I don't know how rapidly this works since I've never used those settings.

Thanks Gary,

I set it to mark all messages read on exit and then Hide Read Messages and
this will work fine.

Thanks Again,

Dennis
