chkdsk error

When I run CHKDSK from the command prompt it says,
CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocatd in the
volume bitmap.
Windows found problems with the file system.
Run CHKDSK with the /F option to correct these.

When I run it with /F the problem is NOT fixed.
If I do a CHKNTFS c: It reports c: is not dirty.
I'm running XP PRO
The system seems to run fine. How can I fix the CHKDSK
errors?

Chkdsk run from within windows (including from the command prompt) is
not very reliable. Also the type of "error" you indicate is common and
not really a problem. If you feel like it run chkdsk /f once in a while
but don't worry about what you see when running from within windows.
