Check Disk

Hi,

I was previosuly encountering this error and prompting from my system tray:

"Rtvscan.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory C:\Documents and Setting\All
Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec Antivirus
Corporate Edition\7.5\I2_LDVP.TMP is corrupt and
unreadable. Please run Chkdsk utility."

I tried to run the check disk several times but encountering this error when
Windows is starting up:

"Checkdisk Cannot open volume for direct access"

I also tried deleting the corrupt file but Windows wont allow me. It says
the file is inreadable. So I just "Cut" the file and moved it temporarily to
my desktop. I have now resolve the Rtvscan.exe error but checkdisk still wont
initiate when starting Windows.

Hope someone can help me.

Update to something more current when it comes to antivirus. Avira is a
good choice.

Now is a great time to point you to one of the easiest ways to find
information on problems you may be having and solutions others have found:

Search using Google!
http://www.google.com/
(How-to: http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html )

Is this what you get?

What service pack is your Windows XP?
Windows XP what? Home? Professional? Media Center? Tablet PC Edition?

The problem can even be caused by your AV software...

Thanks for the fast reply Shenan.

I already have Windows XP SP2 installed.

With regard to the disabling the Services, I'm not sure what to disable. I
already disabled the Symantec Antivirus but still no check disk.

Actually Shenan, even though the one folder name implies version 7.5,
the OP might have something as recent as version 10.2.x.xxxx which was
only superseded by a major version 11 upgrade a few weeks ago. The
corporate SAV /has/ a fairly good reputation in the malware
newsgroups. Of course I'm /not/ referring to the lesser Norton products.

If the OP isn't running a very recent SAV *AND* lacks access to the
version 11 upgrade through his company, then by all means Avira is the
gold standard. I run a recent SAV on a XP Pro and Avira's AntiVir
Personal on another.

Hello Eric:

Although not widely headlined, version 10.1 does have an engine flaw
only repairable with an update or upgrade to 10.2 or beyond.

likely have norton loaded
in the boot sector.

what you might try is to
boot with a winxp cd then
launch the recovery console

then at the prompt run

chkdsk /p
fixboot

then exit and try to boot
again without cd.

---------------

also, you might try looking
to symantec for support.

The OP never mentioned that Norton is being used as that would be a
critical error mixing Norton products with Symantec products in general.

The Symantec support suggestion might be fruitful though, if they will
support SAV 10.1

What other AV software do you have or have you installed?

Spyware Doctor perhaps?
