Changing IRQ's

Matthew

I am trying to change my graphics card IRQ address and the box it
unselectable in and out of safe mode. Everything wants to use IRQ 9 and the
card needs its own IRQ to work properly.

If you have an AGP(slot) graphics card, then there is
little you can do to change IRQ routing since normally
there is only one AGP slot. If it happens to be PCI(rare)
then you can try moving it to another slot. Sometimes you
can get the IRQ routing map from your PC manufacturer.
It's not like the old 95-98 systems or cards that enable
you to force the address.
I had that problem with my sound card (PCI)sharing with
my graphics card(AGP) and through trial and error, I
found a slot that gave the sound card a unique IRQ and
freeing the graphics card.
XP does not let you change the IRQ manually. Usually if
there is no reported conflicts, then it should not be a
problem running several devices on the same IRQ.
You may want to try(as I did) swapping the slots of the
other cards that use #9, one at a time, looking at the
IRQ assigned during each install.
Good luck, this will take hours.
There is some info in the MS Knowledge base on how XP
determines IRQ sharing.
