Changing IP addresss

Casey

We are changing to new class B license and all the IP
address will change is there a way to keep the all the
printer queues intact on our 2000 server? Checking in
properties on Configure Standard TCP/IP Port Monitor the
Port Name is grayed out but you can change the IP address.
Is there any way to change the Port Name via the
registery? Also once I change the IP address will that
filler down to the clients or do I have to visit each
workstation that is confiured to that shared printer?

The client computers "should" be connecting to the Network Printers based on
the computer name of the Print Server, not its IP address, so the clients
should be OK. When you look at the Properties of a Network Printer from a
Windows 2000 or XP client, you actually see the properties of the printer as
they are on the server, which is why you see the Standard TCP/IP port.

I'm not sure if there is a way to change a Port Name for an existing port.
An alternative may be to create new ports, associate them with the
appropriate existing printers and delete the old ports. This change would
be transparent to the client computers.
