Changing default file associations

I have multiple workstations with this issue. We are experiencing this
problem on 4 new workstationed there were cloned from one machine.

There is a file with the extension of .CFZ in the
C:\Docume~1\alluse~1\desktop\ folder that needs to open with a
proprietary application. For some reason the machines are defaulting
to open this file with Internet Explorer. This is a problem since
these machines are being used by many different users and the file
association needs to be changed everytime a new user logs into the
machine. Is there a way to fix this?

Thank you

I assume you have tried Right Click on the CFZ file > Open With >
Choose Program > Navigate to the exe you want then check the "Always
open with this app" box?

That should do it, if not it gets complicated but you can do it
through the clunky and confusing My Computer > Tools > Folder Options
File Types. You have to register CFZ as a new type and associate the
exe you want to open it with the new type.

Ramesh,

Thank you for the reply. Your solution worked. One more question
though. The CFZ file the users are using is on the desktop and the
correct icon isn't displayed. The icon appears as the icon for which
an association doesn't exist. Is there a way to fix this so every new
user has the correct icon?

Thanks again.
