Lost URL file associations

Hi,

Beginning a few days ago, I have been unable to launch IE6 from the
URLs within mail messages and other places. Usually nothing happens
at all, or I get a message that there is no association with that
extension.

Going to the Folders|File type there are several with names like
"Internet Shortcut," "URL-File Transfer Protocol," and "URL-LDAP"
which show NONE for file associations.

Is there a way to restore these? I have found a few fixes for file
associations, but they do no seem to address these.
