Lost all file associations

Running XP Pro. This morning when I started Windows had lost all it's file
associations. When I attempt to start any program, I get the message box
saying Windows needs to know the program associated with the file. I tried
to restore to an earlier point, but when Windows reboots, I get the same
message for the rstrui.exe file. Also I am unable to log on as the
Administrator. Windows tells me the password is incorrect. Any suggestions???
