File association broken

Dan

My system has been running fine for several months, and now this morning it's
acting strange. When I click on an icon, it brings up the file properties
window for that icon rather than starting the program. For example, if I
click on a program shortcut on the desktop, it doesn't start the program but
rather displays the file properties for that shortcut. In Windows Explorer,
if I click on an EML file, it brings up the file properties for it rather
than displaying the EML file in Outlook Express. I have checked the file
associations and the file type EML is supposed to start with Outlook Express.

I'm running Windows XP Professional with SP3. Something must be broken but I
don't know how to fix it. Help! Thanks!

Sounds like your computer is infected with a virus/malware to me. If System
Restore works, I would restore it back to yesterday if it will let you. If
that doesn't work, a total reinstallation might be necessary.

System Tools
System Restore
