File Associations

Recently I had a problem with Adobe InDesign CS3 file, which wouldn't open.
The Adobe tech person helped me fix it with a patch, and it opens fine now.
The tech person said it seems that my file associations were such that my Win
XP SP2 didn't recognize the program associated with the file (indd CS3) and
tried to open the file in indd CS2, which didn't work either ( I have both
programs on my computer). I want to know if there's anything I can do to
avoid having this happen again next I try to output a file created in CS3.
Thanks for any suggestions.--Chatelaine

Most likely it was the Adobe installer file that did not correctly
register the association in the registry during the programs install-hence
the patch, now it's fixed.
