I have uninstalled the beta version of Photoshop CS3 yesterday, and now I
cannot display thumbnail images of psd files. I still have CS2 installed and
the psd file is associated with it. Before the uninstall of CS3, I had no
problem displaying thumbnails of psd files. Can somebody help?
(I already tried running regsvr32 shimgvw.dll, but it did not fix the problem)

XP cannot display thumbnails of PSD files.

The generation of thumbnails for that file type is managed by Adobe's
software.

I don't use their image programs so don't know if the viewing is extended
to the Explorer shell or only within the Adobe programs. I have many of the
Corel products and they only allow thumbnail viewing from within the Corel
programs. Regardless, any PSD thumbnails would still be generated by Adobe
bits, not XP.

If you had thumbnails within Explorer with CS2 before and don't have them
now, a repair install *should* fix that. If not, you'll need to pursue a
resolution with Adobe (or another Adobe user familiar with the problem).

One other thought: Deleting any thumbnail caches maintained by Adobe
software (and by Explorer is missing thumbnails there) and letting them
rebuild might help you out. Explorer thumbnail cache is kept in the
thumbs.db file found in any image folder - this file is maintained on a per
folder basis so would need to delete all thumbs.db files found. I don't
know where the Adobe software keeps its caches.

Reasoning: The CS3 rendering of thumbnails may still be "in" the caches and
it's not readable by CS2.
