It seems that I made a major boo-boo. I changed my boot.ini file to
eliminate multi-booting, but I made a mistake. I had the default boot
as recovery console and tried to change it to xp pro. I didn't change
the final entry in the change from cmdcons and now I can't get the
thing to boot.
I can get to the setup screen and have changed the bios to boot from
floppy
or cd, but it won't boot from either source. I can get to the safe
mode screen but it won't go into safe. All that happens is it goes to
the screen where you select the operating system and Windows xp
professional is displayed. Then it goes to a black screen with a
blinking white cursor in the upper left hand corner. Nothing can be
entered from there.
I have tried formatting boot disks but to no avail. When I try to boot
from a floppy I get a message to remove the floppy. When I try to boot
from the cd I get a message that says ..boot from atapi cd....failure.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Booting from floppy or CD drive has nothing to do with whatever happened to
the OS because the OS isn't even loaded at that point. The boot device is
controlled by the BIOS. You'll need to check the settings in the BIOS for
your UNNAMED motherboard and BIOS vendor to see how to configure which boot
device(s) to use and in what order.
Boot using the Windows XP installation CD, select to use the Recovery
Console, and run FIXBOOT.
