BOOT.INI corrupted?

Hi all

When I boot XP Home SP2 I get a message that BOOT.INI is corrupt and
windows is booting from c:\windows.

To fix it it seems I should boot from the Install CD and use the recovery
console to rebuild my boot.ini file.

Trouble is (for whatever reason) my PC won't boot from a CD. It always
fails. I've tried all different BIOS settings to no avail, its a DVD drive.

Is there any other way I can accomplish this task without booting from the
Installation CD?

I don't know why Patti's posting is not available, but according to my
newsreader the message body is not avilable for download.

[boot loader]
timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home"
/fastdetect

the above is a boot.ini file
copy and paste to notepad
save as boot.ini to the root of your C drive.
This file is working on the assumption that your XP installation is on your C HD
which is HD 0 in the BIOS and you have only one partition on that drive which is
where XP is installed to
