Change IP settings

I have XP Home on my PC and laptop and have just bought Packard Bell's
Net2Plug to set up a network between the two. The problem is, it keeps
telling me that there is an IP conflict as both have the same IP address.
Does anyone know how to change the default gateway to another address?

Better still, recommend a newsgroup which specialises in this sort of thing.

To resolve the issue, Right-click on My Network place, click on properties.
Double-click on your netwrok icon and click on TCP/IP and then properties
button and change to "Assighn the IP Address Automatically".

The default gateway needs to be the same on both. Any network can only have
an IP address used once. Change the IP address of either your laptop or
desktop. Leave the first three sets of numbers identical and only change the
last set. For example, use 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 for the ip addresses.
