Change IP Address & Subnet mask of DC

Kevin Yuen

Due to IP address shortage, I need to change the IP subnet
of a small site from 192.168.33.0/24 to 192.168.35.0/24 so
that I can enlarge the IP subnet from 192.168.32.0/24 to
192.168.32.0/23.

Besides the change of IP settings in routers, static IP
devices & NIC of DC, is there any changes I need to take
care in AD? Any replication issue? Move DC to new
site?? If you faced with the same or similar issue,
please share your experience with me.

Thanks!

Well, you would want to stipulate and associate the new subnet for your
current Site. Make sure that the new IP gets registered in DNS correctly as
well. Restart the netlogon service on the DC to insure that AD updates it's
own info as well. Check printers and anything else on it that's using the IP
or referencing the old IP.

Have done a few IP changes and after doing the above, then you'll kind of
just sit back and check the Event logs and sit by the phone to make sure
nothing else got missed.

:)
