Changing Domain Controller IP Address

Chris I

I'm looking for any issues involving the changing of an Windows 2000 DC's IP
address.

Situation:

2 Local Subnets are merging into one larger one. The IP address of all
servers, routers, switches workstations etc... will be changing. The Server
is a Win2k DC and a secondary DNS server. The Primary (master) DNS server
is a BIND DNA server. I know I will have to change the allow dynamic update
settings in BIND but will BIND DNS update its entries to reflect the new IP
for the existing DC for AD replication and such ? Or will I have to demote
and repromote after the IP address change ?

Any help would be great.

Thank you

If this BIND server will properly handle dynamic updates request from
the DC just change this DC IP address, ensure that there is conectivity
between this BIND DNS and DC and that DC is pointing to this BIND DNS as
the primary DNS in the TCP/IP configurationa, and restart the netlogon
service or reboot the server.

DC shuld update records in the DNS during the netlogon restart. What You
will hav to do manually is the secondary DNS address in BIND DNS zone
configuration to point to the new DC address
