CDRW won't burn a disk

Hi All,

I am having a problem where my combo DVD/CDRW will not burn disk. It will read both data & multimedia CDs or DVDs.

I looked in the registry at the drive ( HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CD
Burning\Drives\Volume{03fa74c4-c268-11d8-b210-806d6172696f} ), and it list the following;

CurrentCDWriteSpeed -1 (0xFFFFFFFF)
Drive Type 2 (0x02)
MaxCDWriteSpeed 24 (0x18)

Since the problem started 10 days ago, I have done the following;

1. Uninstalled/re-installed Roxio CD Creator
2. Tried 2 other CD burning programs (CDBurnerXP & Burn4Free)
3. Ran Ad-aware, Spybot & Norton Anti virus
4. Ran RegScrubXP
5. Ran repair install

When I look at Services under Computer Management, IMAPI is turned off. I can start it manually, but when the burning program
runs (all three), the service gets turned off.

I am open to any ideas on how I can get my burning capability back.

Hi Robert,

That registry key appears to be set correctly.

Thanks for responding.

Hi All,

I solved the problem with the CDRW not writing. When I was doing the uninstall from Add/Remove Programs, it was not getting rid
of everything. I found the utility RoxiZap on the Roxio web site, and when I ran it after running the the Add/Remove applet, it
completely removed the software. I then reloaded the software and it is now running properly.

I sure wish that programmers wrote better uninstall utilities. You should not have to download a separate utility to unload a
program.
