Steve

I have a cdrom and a dvd writer attached to my system
running a fresh installation of Windows XP Pro. I can load
files with both drives and play music and write discs but
I cannot play any games. The games load alright but when I
try and run them all I get is a message saying please
insert cdrom in drive. The disc is in the drive I loaded
the program through and I get the same problem with both
drives.
Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong ?

This appears to be an XP problem. My daughter's pc has a dvd and cd burner and periodically simply stops recognizing that there is a disc in the drive. the drives show up in explorer, but if you click to open it says to insert a disc (and it's already there). what we found was that restarting with a disc in the drive caused windows to recognize the drive and disc properly. other folks simply lose their cd/dvd drives from their configurations.
