CD-rom problem reading.

Hope someone can help...I had a cd-rom/dvd player installed as well as a cd
writer. I have just taken out the cd writer and installed a dvd writer in its
place. I installed the software that came with the dvd writer. My cdrom will
no longer read any disc I put in. It tells me to insert a disc in drive E
when there is already one there. I have checked in properties and 'this
device is working properly'.

Just a thought - did you make sure the jumper settings were the same on
the new DVD writer as they were on the old one you took out?

thanks Kath for your reply. No, I didn't change anything. I just took the
cables out of the cd writer and replaced them in the dvd writer. But this
writer seems to be ok, its the cd rom drive that won't read disks, and I
never touched anything on this?

I have installed 'Belarc Advisor' and run the programme to show my cd rom
drives. It is the 'untouched' VOBID drive that will no longer read the cdroms
I insert? It worked perfectly before I installed the dvd writer in place of
the cd writer??

If it were me, then I'd check that the jumpers are the same on the old
CD as they are on the new DVD. You've probably altered the sequence of
master/slave and confused things.

Glad all is now well, and thanks for posting back.
(Been there, done that, got the t-shirt - which is why I suggested this
as a solution!)
Regards
